São Vicente: Hashish and 'crack' among the drugs most seized by the National Police

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The drugs hashish and ‘crack’ are among the most popular narcotic products and among those most seized by the National Police (PN), in São Vicente, according to information from superintendent Elvis Leite.

The spokesperson for the PN command, in Mindelo, gave the guarantee today, at a press conference, to disclose results of the “ mega operation ” carried out on Thursday, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, before the weekend extended period relating to Easter.

“In vogue at the moment, we have had a lot of apprehensions regarding ‘crack’ and ‘xamu’, commonly known as hashish”, asserted the same source.

Asked about the most affected areas on the island, Elvis Leite assured that there were no more referenced areas, but rather these “depend on the location and depending on the time”.

Coincidence or not, the National Police also detained an individual in the operation on Thursday, 28th, for possession of a product presumed to be narcotic, allegedly hashish. The same suspect was also detained in possession of some monetary value.

This arrest is also included in the set of ten arrests made on the same day, all of the others being for driving without a legal license, and whose suspects will be presented to the Court this weekend, said Elvis Leite.

The “mega operation”, according to the same source, involved 71 agents, who approached 86 people on public roads, of which 48 were subject to searches.

The intervention also allowed the seizure of 12 motor vehicles due to lack of inspection and insurance and 25 mopeds and four motorcycles, all due to lack of documentation.

The intervention, according to the superintendent, aimed, on the one hand, to prevent the occurrence of crimes and, on the other hand, to contribute to increasing citizens’ sense of security.

And these measures, believes Elvis Leite, are having an effect with the different operations constantly carried out by the National Police, particularly in the areas of road safety and “population satisfaction” with the police presence on the streets.
