Africa-Press – Cape verde. The winning works from the second and third editions of the Comic Strip Competition of Portuguese-Speaking African Countries (BD PALOP) will be presented this Tuesday, the 9th, in Mindelo.

The event will take place at the National Center for Art, Crafts and Design (CNAD) and marks the culmination of an intensive training, mentoring, and artistic exchange process, according to BDPALOP’s partner in Cape Verde, Dai Varela.

The competition, according to the same source, brought together authors from Angola, Cape Verde, and Mozambique, resulting in nine new original works that portray the diversity, concerns, and creativity of the youth of Portuguese-speaking African countries.

In addition to celebrating the program’s results, this double launch reaffirms BDPALOP’s objectives, namely to disseminate, support, and catalyze the comic strip ecosystem in the PALOP countries, promoting a sustainable and more inclusive cultural scene.

The initiative, Dai Varela emphasized, also stands out for integrating a gender equality policy, ensuring that at least 50% of the creation grants are awarded to women.

The same source also pointed out that the competition, now in its third consecutive year, is the consolidation of a movement that seeks to transform African comics in Portuguese into a platform for international artistic expression, income, and collaboration.
