Africa-Press – Cape verde. The president of the Institute of the Sea (Imar) said today that the development project for fishing fleet of shrimp aligns with the development strategy of Cabo Verde, where the sea appears as a crucial component.

Malik Lopes was speaking in the Imar auditorium during the presentation of this project, funded by the Global Environment Facility and implemented by the World Bank (WB), through the Coastal Fisheries Initiative.

According to the responsible, the project aims to contribute to the strengthening of the national productive potential, seeking to ensure sustainability conditions and also competitiveness in the business fabric linked to the sea.

“This is a pilot action of technology transfer, but also theoretical and practical knowledge for the development of semi-industrial fishing through the fishing of shrimp in the waters of Cabo Verde”, he stressed, stating that Imar “is engaged in the project because it understands to be an opportunity to explore a new resource and also from a perspective of scientific and technological research”.
