São Vicente: Txon-poesia Festival seeks to combat “prejudice” in relation to poetic language – organization

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The fourth edition of the Txon-poesia Festival, which kicked off this Thursday in Mindelo, aims to combat “prejudice” in relation to poetic language and become a “unique moment” of sharing this art, said José Pinto, member of organization.

Speaking to the press, José Pinto said that the event aims to become a “unique moment” of sharing poems and bringing poetry and literature closer to people’s lives.

” Therefore, we also thought about this network programming to cover cultural centers and bookstores, so that, deep down, this prejudice that we sometimes have regarding poetic language can also be lost a little. ”, maintained the same source.

This is because, he argued, “ it is perfectly known that a poem can transform lives for the better, inspire new ideas, other ways of thinking, other perspectives and even enhance happiness ”.

In this sense, he assured, young poets and an international guest are being brought to Mindelo, the writer from São Tomé and Príncipe, Olinda Beja.

” We want to promote these spaces for sharing ideas, reflections, also around some themes that we think are linked to poetry, which is not just text, it’s image, it’s also cinema “, considered José Pinto.

The fourth edition of the Txon-poesia Festival pays homage to the nation’s hero Amílcar Cabral who, the same source asserted, proves to be the personification of “a poet as a visionary”, someone who “ imagines the future ”.

” We want to pay tribute to Cabral’s work, in the sense of being able to convey to people that poetry is not just writing, that poetry also has a vision, it also has a projection of what we dream for our context, for our city, for our country ”, he highlighted.

With these objectives in mind, the program, which runs until Saturday, 25th, proposes presenting poetic performances, film screenings, conversations around works, ‘show case’, workshops and other activities, developed in the spaces of Alternativa Galeria, Centro Portuguese Cultural – Mindelo Center and Mindelo Portuguese Language Center.
