São Vicente: Unions call for social security affiliation of seafarers and for complementary diagnostic exams to be covered by private services

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Trade Unions of São Vicente asked today for the registration of seafarers and workers from other public and private institutions in social security and coverage for complementary diagnostic tests in private health structures.

This request was made at a press conference, in Mindelo, by the Sao Vicente Trade Union (USV) on the International Day of Social Security, which is celebrated today.

“One should look at the other social security issues here in the country, above all, the one that has to do with the registration of workers, namely, seafarers and workers from other public and private institutions here who do not have social security coverage. The Social Security System must also pay attention to medical assistance, which, at this moment, we consider that the National Institute of Social Security (INPS) only covers the basics”, criticized USV spokesman Tomás de Aquino.

According to the same source, the system often “does not even cover the basics” because, he stressed, according to the agreement with the Ministry of Health, beneficiaries of the Social Security System are treated through the Ministry of Health and the central hospitals in the country do not have sufficient means to meet the needs in terms of complementary diagnostic tests.
