Africa-Press – Cape verde. The island, with its long-standing connection to cinema, can contribute to the digital economy at the intersection of culture, innovation, and technology, said the Secretary of State for the Digital Economy in Mindelo.

Pedro Lopes presided over the event “Mindelwood – Cinema, Technology and Creative Future” this Saturday at the Tech Park Cabo Verde, in Mindelo.

The initiative, part of Digital Week, sought to utilize the brand-new technology park in the Chã de Marinha area, but also to integrate culture and technology.

“Talking about culture, digital art, cinema, and considering the importance of São Vicente in its positioning… we believe that if we create this intersection between culture, innovation, and technology, São Vicente has much to contribute to the country’s digital economy,” emphasized Pedro Lopes.

Mindelwood aims to provide young people with masterclasses, workshops, and training that are not limited to the current event, but which, according to the Secretary of State, can be leveraged through the opportunities offered by the Mindelo technology park.

The intention is to establish a bridge between the city’s cinematic history and the new opportunities opened up by digital technology, encouraging the development of creative skills and reinforcing Cape Verde’s potential in the production of audiovisual and digital content.

The initiative is not limited to São Vicente, but extends throughout the country, as Digital Week began in Brava and spread to various islands.

As Pedro Lopes explained, even the diaspora will not be left out, as two days of the event are scheduled to hear from Cape Verdean entrepreneurs living abroad.

“We have Cape Verdeans who studied at the best universities, work for large international companies, and we believe that our diaspora can return. We have quality infrastructure and excellent connectivity,” said the official.

Pedro Lopes encouraged nationals living in the diaspora to do business from Cape Verde to the African continent, to the rest of the world, and to hire young people who have not yet left the country.
