Africa-Press – Cape verde. Mindelo, on the island of São Vicente, today celebrates the 143rd anniversary of its elevation to the category of city with a solemn ceremony in the Town Hall, which includes speeches, lectures and a cultural moment.
The event is scheduled to begin at 9AM, with the performance of the Municipal Band, followed by a cultural moment and Mayor speech, Augusto Neves.
At another point in the event, the writer Germano Almeida will deliver a lecture on “Mindelo: from village to current city”, Helena Rebelo will talk on “Mindelo healthy city” and, finally, the Minister of the Sea, Abraão Vicente will address the theme “São Vicente: prospects and short-term challenges”.
Mindelo was elevated to the category of city on April 14, 1879, after being colonized in 1795 by the Portuguese.
