Scraps to fan navigation

Africa-Press – Cape verde. Representatives Orlando Dias and Emanuel Barbosa have been sending strong messages to the fan navigation. The first, who has already expressed his intention to run for the leadership of the MpD, defends limiting the prime minister’s mandate, while the second, who is a candidate for the post of coordinator of this training in Portugal, says he does not want a party with “controllerists and single thinking”.

Orlando Dias, who has already publicly expressed his intention to run for the leadership of the MpD, in the livestreams that should precede the party’s ordinary convention, scheduled for 2023, is launching proposals to try to change the “status quo” of the fan party.

In a recent Facebook post, this deputy says: “unlike Ulisses Correia e Silva, I am in favor of shared leadership and against power concentrated in a single person, as it is currently”.

In addition to successive positions, in Parliament, on the containment of public expenditure, through the reduction of the public machine, State vehicles and fuel expenses, this deputy and doctor defends the limitation of the prime minister’s mandate (two mandates of five years) and the presidents of the Municipal Councils (three terms of four years), “because they are executive positions”.

Elected by the Africa circle, Dias also defends, at the level of political parties, the strengthening of the powers of collegiate bodies and “in the case of the MpD, a profound revision of its Statutes will be proposed”.

Candidate for leadership of MpD

In a letter addressed to Ulisses Correia e Silva, last January, Orlando Dias expressed his intention to run for the leadership of the MpD in 2023. On the occasion, he defended that the permanent analysis of party organizations becomes, at present, a privileged way for a competent understanding of the process of revitalization of democracy in different societies, in the most diverse social systems.

Dias also said that he made “careful analyses” of the country and the performance of the MpD under the leadership of UCS, which has been in power from 2016 to this part, and came to the conclusion that “there are those who have completely different ideas and, whole, servants” for the conduct of the party.

“In fact, the MpD has not managed, in the years following 2016, to achieve a multiplier organization of the renewal of social, national energies. ‘In fini’, the role of the MpD has to be turned to promote an involving collective will, based on the greatest “economy of forces” for the country”, he added.

Orlando Dias also stated that there is a border of new ideals as well as new interests to be triggered, well interconnected with the context of modern organization and functioning of the party, along with the consequent culture of performances by what passes, or should pass, the national community system, in line with “positive and contagious induction”.

Messages from Emanuel Barbosa

Also deputy Emanuel Barbosa is another who seems to be somewhat dissatisfied with the direction of the MpD. At the moment in the race for his re-election as a party coordinator in Portugal, he said, in the presentation of his candidacy, who advances to another mandate for understanding that “in this troubled phase that lives Cape Verde, it takes a stronger party, more cohesive, closer to the community, to be able to face new challenges and engage in new fights”.

Barbosa also defends “a plural party, broadly democratic and interventionist, without providential figures or authoritarian tics”. And he made it clear: “We want this, precisely, because this is the DNA of the MpD”.

Sustaining that the MpD is “a party that was born from a great popular movement and that was built by the commitment and will of the bases”, Barbosa stressed that he wanted “a MpD aligned with the great strategic objectives defined in its program, emanating from the will of the militancy that left national conventions, with subsidies to various voices. ”

To be even clearer, the deputy alluded to what he does not want “a party of apparatus, with controlling practices and a single thought”, which he considers a perversion of the identity heritage that gave rise to the MpD.

“Only with maturity, pragmatism, responsibility, rationality and selflessness, will we be able to renew popular confidence in 2026, and resume the cycle of victories of 2016, in Portugal, the Diaspora and the Archipelago. Yes, let’s prepare the Party to win all the 2026 elections!”, he emphasized.

The elections for coordinator of the MpD in Portugal are scheduled for the 3rd of April. Ruben Traquino is Emanuel Barbosa’s opponent in these elections.
