Second round between candidates for PAICV leadership is a possibility

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The president of the National Jurisdiction and Inspection Commission (CNJF) of the PAICV, Clóvis Silva, admitted this Saturday the possibility of there being a second round between the candidates for the party leadership who received the most votes in the first round of voting.

According to Clóvis Silva, a second round could take place if none of the candidates obtains an absolute majority.

“We have taken on the entire electoral process with some tranquility and the PAICV has, in fact, to naturalize this process,” said Clóvis Silva, when urged by journalists, on the sidelines of the delivery today of the candidacies of Nuias Silva and Jorge Spencer Lima, respectively.

Francisco Carvalho’s representative scheduled the submission of the candidacy for today, at 3 pm, but in relation to Francisco Pereira’s, the president of the CNJF says he is unaware of the time.

“The CNJF has 48 hours to accept the candidacies, after receiving them”, revealed Clóvis Silva and, according to him, any irregularities found will be communicated to the respective representatives for correction purposes.

On March 30, four candidates will compete for the leadership of the African Party for the Independence of Cape Verde, namely: Nuias Silva, Francisco Carvalho, Jorge Spencer Lima and Francisco Pereira.

In addition to the party president, on the 30th the delegates for the PAICV congress will also be elected, which according to Clóvis Silva, is scheduled to take place from May 2nd to 4th.
