A team made up of three secondary school students and their mentors will represent Cape Verde in the 7th edition of the FIRST Global 2023 Robotics Contest, organized by the International FIRST Committee Association (IFCA), known as FIRST Global, aimed at young people in secondary education. , which takes place in Singapore from the 7th to the 10th of October.
The 2023 edition focuses on finding a solution within the climate change scenario, bringing green hydrogen to the center of attention.
One of the mentors, João Pinheiro, explains that this “is the culmination of activities carried out over a year, centered on teams of students who use a standard kit with parts to design and assemble a robot to complete tasks in a thematic game”.
The Cape Verde team has already received the kit and is currently in the fundraising phase to ensure registration in the contest and travel to participate in it.
“Throughout the competition, they will join forces with robots from other teams in the spirit of “Coopertition” (Cooperation + Competition), in an “Olympics” style experience, unlike any other” clarifies the mentor.
Minister of the Sea welcomes the team
The team that will participate in the 7th edition of the competition was received by the Minister of the Sea, Abraão Vicente, who pledged to take the project to his peers and different sectors with an interest in the matter, and in the solutions that can arise from robotics, to together there are ways to enable the participation of Cape Verdean students.
Abraão Vicente also provided institutional support and space for assembling the prototype and starting work.
