Africa-Press – Cape verde. The President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, said today that he was surprised by “some aggressiveness and disrespect” in some speeches addressed to him. He says that, regarding aggressive speeches, he prefers not to comment on “less elegant statements”.
“It takes a lot of restraint. Some aggressiveness is strange, sometimes more disrespectful speeches from some, but it is the political field that we have. This just shows the level of challenges we have ahead of us”, commented the highest judge of the Cape Verdean nation, understanding that there must be a lot of serenity, political pedagogy and education for citizenship.
JMN says he prefers not to comment on the attacks against him, so that an environment “increasingly elevated, calm and suitable for the exercise of politics and different functions” can be created.
Cohabitation with “normal” government
Asked, on the other hand, how cohabitation has been, in his first year in office as President of the Republic, José Maria Neves replies that it is “normal”, since politics is always a learning experience.
“We are learning, seeing what is the attitude, behavior, of the different actors, at different times, but globally, cohabitation has worked well, and we have made an effort to dialogue, cooperate and to find the best solutions for the country”, he observed. .
José Maria Neves made these statements on the sidelines of a three-day official visit to Sal, after a meeting with the mayor, Júlio Lopes, when he urged him to pronounce on the matter.
