Africa-Press – Cape verde. Five young men, aged between 18 and 21, were remanded in custody on suspicion of involvement in the murder of a 20-year-old man, which occurred on September 14th in the Calabaceira neighborhood of Praia.
According to information released by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the five individuals, all Cape Verdean nationals, were arrested in flagrante delicto by the National Police shortly after the incident.
The detainees are suspected of co-authorship of several crimes, including aggravated homicide, criminal association (gang or gang), possession and use of weapons, and discharge of firearms, all offenses covered by and punishable by the Cape Verdean Penal Code.
During the investigation, authorities seized a homemade firearm known as a “boka bedju,” a long barrel adapted for cartridges, a Maxim, two knives, and a baseball bat.
After their first judicial interrogation, they were given the most severe coercive measure—preventive detention.
