Tarrafal and Nigrán Sign Twinning Protocol for Funding

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Tarrafal Municipal Council and the Spanish municipality of Nigrán signed a twinning protocol and two financing agreements with the Galician Fund on Monday, aimed at supporting social and local development projects in the Santiago municipality.

In an interview with Inforpress, the mayor of Tarrafal, José dos Reis, explained that the agreement establishes a formal framework for cooperation between the two municipalities, focusing on social, cultural, sporting, and local economic development areas.

According to the mayor, this partnership reinforces an existing relationship between the municipality of Tarrafal and entities in the Galicia region, which have previously supported initiatives related to local development in the municipality.

José dos Reis highlighted that, in parallel with the twinning protocol, two financing agreements totaling 60,000 euros were signed, intended to support projects in the localities of Fonton and Fazenda.

According to the mayor, the resources will allow for the implementation of initiatives to support families in the Fonton region, one of the areas most affected by the intense rains recorded on November 13th, as well as the development of actions to benefit the population of the Fazenda locality.

The mayor considered the agreement an important step towards consolidating and intensifying cooperation between the two municipalities, especially in mobilizing projects aimed at the economic and social development of Tarrafal.

In turn, the president of the Galician Cooperation Fund and also mayor of the municipality of Nigrán, Juan González, said that the international cooperation promoted by the institution aims to support other municipalities, but also to learn from local experiences.

He explained that the relationship between the two municipalities is based on a logic of partnership and knowledge sharing, emphasizing that cooperation should be understood as a process of mutual learning.

Juan González further emphasized that the signing of the twinning protocol symbolizes a relationship of friendship and brotherhood between the two entities, paving the way for joint participation in social, sporting, and investment projects.

He added that the signing of the agreements with the Galician Fund is the result of the identification of projects considered priorities by the Tarrafal City Hall, which the delegation had the opportunity to learn about during their visit to the municipality.

The Galician delegation carried out a three-day visit to the municipality of Tarrafal, from March 14th to 16th, during which they fulfilled a work agenda that included visits to several ongoing development projects, namely in the localities of Ribeira da Prata, Fonton, Fazenda, and Ponta Furna, as well as visits to the Municipal Nursery and spaces related to tourism and nautical activities.
