Africa-Press – Cape verde. The teachers’ unions, Sindprof and Sindep, said today that they are “dissatisfied” with the Government’s proposal to update the new salary scale only in January 2025, knowing that the statute will come out in June.
The unions showed this dissatisfaction to Inforpress, after the Government announced, through a statement, a new statute for the teachers’ remuneration table that will be published in June.
“Why is the Government only going to update the new salary grid in January, knowing that it had promised that the salary grid will be accompanied by the statute that comes out in June”, asked Lígia Herbert.
For the president of Sindprof, Lígia Herbert, this 16% increase “does not satisfy” this class, justifying that there are still some issues to be resolved, regarding stagnant progressions, transition of teachers and the subsidy for not reducing the load hourly.
She welcomed the Government’s attitude towards this initiative and wants the executive to resolve the remaining issues.
On the other hand, he added that this class continues to fight for their rights, if necessary with more strikes because, as he explained, “they haven’t achieved anything yet”, but only the 16% of the salary and 20% missing.
For his part, Jorge Cardoso also welcomed the Government’s attitude, but considered that this update “does not satisfy” the class, justifying that teachers will only benefit from this money in January.
“In these two years, Cape Verdean workers lost their purchasing power by around 15% and this is unbearable for everyone’s pockets, especially teachers, waiting until January to benefit from this money”, he asserted.
Jorge Cardoso also said that the fight continues and that if the pending issues are not resolved, this class will go on strike in June.
