Africa-Press – Cape verde. Technicians from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, from all islands, start this Monday, 16, in Praia, a training on drone piloting for agriculture and precision reforestation, given by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

The training, through the Acceleration Laboratory (Acelerator Lab), takes place from May 16 to 24, in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, according to a press release.

The initiative aims to promote the proficiency of these professionals in the use of drones for agriculture, enabling them to acquire skills, dexterity, confidence and autonomy.

From the trainees, technicians from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, from all islands, it is expected that at the end of this training they will be better able to explore this technology and operate drones, in a fruitful way, in different scenarios of the Cape Verdean context.

Drop seeds with drone

The training is composed of two aspects, theoretical and practical, in which the technicians will go to the field to sow seeds, using the drone, a technology increasingly used worldwide, for agricultural and forestry purposes.

According to the UNDP, this practice has proved to be a very promising technological innovation that is essential to increase productivity, reduce operating costs, increase harvest quality, as well as reduce the risk of accidents at work.

On the other hand, for Cape Verde, the use of this technology appears as a solution to overcome complex challenges that the country faces, namely in terms of climate change, since drones allow optimizing the reforestation process, aiming at the preservation of the soil and the environment and also can be used in sowing, soil fertilization, spraying with pesticides.

The opening act of this training is scheduled for 9 am this Monday, 16, and will be chaired by the Director General of Agriculture, Forestry and Livestock, representing the MAA by the manager of the UNDP Energy, Environment and Climate Change portfolio.
