Africa-Press – Cape verde. Ten individuals aged between 17 and 52 were arrested, outside of flagrante delicto, charged with various crimes related to sexual abuse of a child and placing a person in a state of being unable to protect themselves – ill-treatment of relatives and harm to the physical and gender-based violence.
The Public Ministry cited by Inforpress, through a statement published today on its official page, said that following an investigation of 12 case reports, registered with the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the District of São Filipe, which also covers the municipality of Santa Catarina do Fogo , ordered the arrest, outside of the act of committing a crime, of nine individuals, all of Cape Verdean nationality, and residing in various locations in the two municipalities.
According to the statement, the facts at issue are likely to include, for now, the practice of various crimes of sexual assault, placing a person in a state of being unable to protect themselves, ill-treatment of relatives and harm to physical integrity and gender-based violence.
After the arrests and undergoing the first judicial interrogation of detainees, in accordance with the request of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, coercive measures were applied to the defendants, prohibiting contact by any means with the victim, weekly presentation to the authorities and prohibition leaving the island of Fogo, with the exception of a 41-year-old individual with no occupation, accused of committing a crime of continued ill-treatment of relatives and four crimes of harm to physical integrity, who was placed under preventive detention as a measure of personal coercion.
