The issue of suicide in children and adolescents is “very concerning” – president of INSP

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The president of the National Institute of Public Health (INSP), Maria da Luz Lima, argued today that the issue of suicide in children and adolescents is “very concerning” and recommended in-depth studies to understand the causes.

Maria da Luz Lima was responding to journalists, when asked to react to some cases of suicides in children and adolescents that have occurred in Cabo Verde, as part of the webinar celebrating World Suicide Day, marked on the 10th of this month.

“Obviously, in-depth studies must be carried out to understand the causes, but there is also a lot of work that we have to do with families, above all, and with the community, and the church itself, which also has a very important role in this regard” , She stated.

In her view, this approach should also be carried out in schools, with teachers, due to the close relationship with children.

“Fortunately, they are rare in children and adolescents, but we need to give more love and be closer, more attentive and create a spirit of unity in the family and community so that people really have mental health and do not commit acts that affect their lives and those of their families”, she added.
