
Africa-Press – Cape verde. The President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, today, the 23rd, awards the Medal of Merit, First Class, to the SOS Cabo Verde Children’s Villages, at a time when the organization marks 40 years of its arrival in the country.
The distinction also marks the installation of the first Children’s Village in Assomada, completed in 1984.
In this context, Orlando José Mascarenhas and Dionísio Simões Pereira will also be distinguished with the Medal of Merit, First Class, and, in this way, all those who “over these four decades have lent their generosity and high spirit of solidarity to for the cause of SOS Children’s Villages and for the benefit of the common good”, quotes the press release from the Presidency”.
The distinction of the Head of State, according to Presidential Decree No. 04/2024 of March 5, reflects the recognition of the entire Nation for the “invaluable contribution” of Aldeias SOS to a genuine and palpable sense of social solidarity in our country, namely enabling life training for hundreds of young people and contributing to the promotion of family harmony and community cohesion.
On this occasion, the letter reads, it is also necessary to “praise the generous, supportive and exemplary role of individuals who, in a particular way, knew how to take on the cause” of that institution, “motivating others and leaving their personal mark of enthusiasm and ability to achieve”.
The President of the Republic, on behalf of the entire Cape Verdean society, thus remembers everyone who has contributed to the enormous positive impacts of this institution in our country, including monitors, directors, uncles, mothers and distinguished collaborators, godmothers and godparents, among many other individuals.
