Africa-Press – Cape verde. There are five thousand job openings available in the Algarve Tourism Region that can be filled by Cape Verdean professionals. The appeal comes from the representative of that region, João Fernandes, who even says he wants to see Cape Verdeans occupy these vacancies.
João Fernandes is part of a Portuguese mission in Cape Verde, organized by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), within the scope of the project to promote “A good management of labor migration from Cape Verde to Portugal”.
The objective, according to Inforpress, is to strengthen communication and coordination between public institutions and private companies in the two countries, exploring mechanisms that facilitate the mobility of workers between the two countries in the tourism sector.
Strengthen response capacity with young Cape Verdeans
This source added that the Algarve Region is experiencing a rapid recovery in tourism, hence the need to strengthen its response capacity in terms of services.
“Cape Verde has a large community in the perfectly integrated region, which enjoys a good image from the point of view of their suitability for being people who are available for work and who are competent in their roles, namely in the tourism sector”, he said.
In this context, he explained that within the scope of this labor mobility program from Cape Verde to Portugal, which is being facilitated by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), there is an opening to hire young Cape Verdeans to integrate the labor market in Portugal and particularly in the Algarve.
Long-term cooperative relationship
“We have about 5,000 job offers that need to be filled, which can be by Cape Verdeans and other nationalities, we also privilege Cape Verde because of the relationship that already exists”, he said, referring to the partnership between the School of Hospitality and Tourism. of Cape Verde and the School of Hospitality and Tourism of the Algarve, which even participated in the opening of the Cape Verdean school ten years ago.
On the other hand, he added that within the scope of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP) a program was designed to facilitate this mobility of Portuguese-speaking countries.
The delegation even met with the Institute for Employment and Professional Training (IEFP) and has already held a first meeting with the Portuguese ambassador in Cape Verde to analyze the issue of access to the visa, which has been “a major impediment”.
guarantee rights
The objective, as he said, is to ensure that this migratory flow, which is already taking place, is carried out in a regulated manner, guaranteeing professionals all their rights.
“What we want is to reinforce the bottom line by taking advantage of this youth unemployment rate here and the need for work there. We are exactly working together to increase that opportunity”, she justified.
In the Algarve, he added that all areas of tourism are in need, from rent-a-car to the airport, hotels, restaurants and golf courses.
“Fortunately, here the IEFP itself has its offer of training in hospitality, catering and tourism, we have a hotel and tourism school and we know that Cape Verde has invested heavily in training. Portugal is well aware of this commitment and recognizes that Cape Verdeans are clearly qualified human resources that prove themselves already in our territory”, he concluded.
