Tropical wave in Cape Verde: Civil Protection and Firefighters with no record of incidents caused by rains in the early hours of today

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The National Service of Civil Protection and Firefighters (SNPCB) did not record any incidents as a result of the rains that fell at dawn today, Wednesday, 30th, in all the islands of Cape Verde, due to the influence of a tropical wave that, as the alert of the National Meteorology and Geophysics Institute (INMG), should perish until the 1st of September

According to Inforpress, after an interview with the president of the SNPCB, Domingos Tavares, from the contacts made, this Wednesday morning, with all the municipal structures of the civil protection service, it was found that there were no emergency calls and no even damage to public roads.

“The rains fell moderately and there was no damage or requests for assistance. We have been accompanying you from Santo Antão to Brava and everything is calm. There were not even reports of falling stones on the roads, which tend to happen, above all, in the highlands”, he said.

Domingos Tavares added that the forecast from the meteorological services indicated that the rains would be accompanied by some gusts of wind, which for now did not happen, so there were no major risks.

Forecast of cloudy skies with occurrence of rain of variable intensity

The president of the SNPCB reinforces the recommendations for people to protect themselves and try to look for safe places to shelter during the rains, avoid stepping in puddles of water and, if you are driving, take care not to be swept away by currents of water.

For the next few hours, the National Institute of Meteorology and Geophysics (INMG) forecasts cloudy skies, locally very cloudy or overcast with rain of varying intensity, sometimes accompanied by thunderstorms.

Visibility will generally be moderate (less than 8 km), locally reducing to poor (less than 4 km) during precipitation and moderate to fresh wind (20 – 38 km/h) in Barlavento. nRegarding the state of the sea, waves of 2.0 to 3.5 meters are expected.

Alert from the National Meteorology and Geophysics Institute

It should be recalled that the National Institute of Meteorology and Geophysics (INMG) warned that Cape Verde will be, from yesterday, August 29 to September 1, “under the influence of a tropical wave, moving in a West-Northwest direction, with probability to develop into a tropical depression.

According to information published on its Facebook page, the INMG also predicted the occurrence of widespread rain of varying intensity, sometimes accompanied by thunderstorms.

“During its trajectory, the occurrence of generalized rain of varying intensity is expected, sometimes accompanied by thunderstorms, significant intensification of the wind and consequent worsening of the state of the sea”, says the INMG, which guarantees that it is carrying out “monitoring and update of the evolution of the state of the weather”.

On the 17th and 18th of August, Cape Vede was also under the influence of a tropical wave which led to heavy rains and worsening sea conditions on several islands. The change in weather had been felt with greater intensity on the islands of Fogo, Brava, Santiago and Maio.
