Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Independent and Democratic Cape Verdean Union (UCID, opposition) suggested this Tuesday, in Mindelo, that there is a need for the Government to “fully take over” inter-island flights, so that things can change and the islands can be connected .
This position was expressed by UCID deputy Dora Pires, asked by Inforpress to react to connection problems due to the unpredictability of inter-island flights, especially after Transportes Interilhas de Cabo Verde (TICV), which operates under the BestFly Cabo Verde brand, had announced that all of the company’s flights remain canceled until May 7th.
“ All of this is complicated and we understand that, being an archipelago, national transport, both sea and air, could be the responsibility of the Government. We need good management ,” he stated.
The deputy said that the UCID had already drawn attention to the absence of Bestfly in parliament, and also to the need for the country to have planes with appropriate dimensions that can help with constant circulation between the islands.
“ A plane that flies between São Vicente, Sal, Boa Vista and Praia is not the same or should not be the same for a flight that is directed to islands such as Maio, São Nicolau and Fogo, because there is a need to have planes that can carry 175 passengers, but there is a need to have planes that can carry 36, 40 passengers ”, he suggested.
According to Dora Pires, instead of the Government “ asking for money to build an airport or to build a deep-water port, when the country does not have planes, it should ask for planes to connect the islands ”
“ Summer is approaching, a very big movement is approaching. International flights can arrive, but not on all islands. And how the distribution will be done. Even if we had boats sailing more quickly between the islands, it could be an alternative, but we don’t ”, he considered, corroborating the words of the President of the Republic that “ there is a chaotic situation and a total rupture ”.
