Ukraine: Cape Verde PR promises to take measures after PM's meeting with Zelensky

Africa-Press – Cape verde. Cape Verdean President José Maria Neves said today that he found a meeting between his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, and the country’s Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, on the island of Sal, strange, and promises to take action.“ Indeed, there is a deep strangeness on my part regarding this meeting and in my own space I will draw attention to this issue and take the measures that prove relevant” , said the Cape Verdean head of state today.

On Sunday, the Cape Verdean Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, received the Ukrainian President at Sal international airport, who made a two-hour stop in the archipelago on his way to Latin America.

Speaking to the press today, in the city of Praia, after receiving the former Cape Verdean Prime Minister, Carlos Veiga, the President of the Republic said he was surprised at the way things happened, making it clear that he had no knowledge of the meeting.

“ A counterpart of the President of the Republic arrives in Cape Verde and, therefore, in these matters there must be coordination between the sovereign bodies and the President cannot be placed under a fait accompli on these matters ”, he replied.

“ Here the country does very well when there is coordination, when information is channeled appropriately and when there is respect for the different institutions of the Republic ”, insisted José Maria Neves.

The head of state, former prime minister elected by the African Independence Party of Cape Verde (PAICV, currently the parliamentary opposition), has criticized excessive partisanship and called attention to the struggle for protagonism in the country and has already accused the Government supported by the Movement for Democracy (MpD) of “institutional disloyalty” in matters of foreign policy.

In November, the head of state had already stated that he did not understand the country’s abstention in a United Nations resolution on the conflict between Israel and Hamas, as human rights were at stake and asked for consultation on these types of matters.

At the same time, the head of State, as supreme commander of the Armed Forces, stated that he was not aware of the new Strategic Concept of National Defense, presented by the Ministry of Defense.

When questioned, the Prime Minister said that he does not deal with relations between the Government and the President of the Republic in the media, nor on social networks, in reaction to remarks made by the head of State at the time.
