Africa-Press – Cape verde. The president of the Cape Verdean Volleyball Federation (FCV) gave a positive assessment of the women’s championship held from August 27th to 31st in Tarrafal, describing it as a dream come true.
In a statement to the press, António Rodrigues emphasized that the North Santiago region has contributed significantly to national volleyball, with several athletes being called up to the national team and others representing Cape Verde internationally.
According to the same source, the organization and holding of the event in a municipality in the North Santiago region is seen by the FCV as recognition of the work of local athletes and the role they have played in volleyball at the national and international levels.
Rodrigues also highlighted the involvement of athletes from North Santiago not only in indoor volleyball but also in beach volleyball, a sport in which Cape Verde is gaining international recognition.
This official stated that the championship concluded with a “golden key.”
Six teams participated in the competition: Paulense (Santo Antão), Desportivo Fonte Francês (São Vicente), Volley Clube Espargos (Sal), Graciosa (Santiago Norte), ABC, and Inter da Praia (Santiago Sul), the latter of which was crowned Cape Verdean champion.
The group stage was played in a round-robin format, followed by the semifinals on Saturday the 30th and the final on Sunday the 31st.
