Africa-Press – Cape verde. Two Cape Verdean refugees were identified in Romania, following the war in Europe, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The guarantee is from the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Cape Verde, Miryam Vieira. They were identified through diplomatic missions.
“From the information we received from diplomatic missions, especially in New York, regarding Ukraine, two Cape Verdeans were identified. We are still in contact with the Romanian permanent mission to see the identification of the aforementioned Cape Verdeans because it is a list by nationality and does not come with detailed information about the nationals who were identified as refugees in Romania”, he declared.
According to her, only nationality was identified, stressing that the two Cape Verdeans probably had their passports or any other document that identified them as national citizens in their possession.
“We are in close contact with different diplomatic missions in order to better investigate, therefore, the existence of more Cape Verdeans, probably in Ukraine and Russia. And in Russia we have some students who need some consular assistance and protection in this regard and we will also work with the Angolan embassy in Moscow to provide consular assistance that is required and required at this time”, he clarified.
It is recalled that Russia launched, on February 24, a military offensive in Ukraine, after months of concentrating troops and weapons on the border with the justification of preparing exercises.
The war has killed at least nearly 1,000 civilians and injured around 1,500, including more than 170 children, according to the United Nations. In addition, the conflict has caused more than 10 million people to flee their homes, including more than 3.3 million to neighboring countries.
According to the UN, around 13 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance in Ukraine. The Russian invasion was condemned by the international community in general, which responded by sending weapons to Ukraine and reinforcing economic and political sanctions on Moscow.
