White Foya worried about “murder of nature” on São Pedro beach

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Management of the Hotel Foya Branca, in São Vicente, is concerned about what it classifies as an “ecological disaster”, caused by a concrete construction on São Pedro beach, in São Vicente.

This is a Beach Club, which is part of the São Pedro Hills Resort, under construction in the town of Santo André, in São Pedro.

For Luís Roll, CEO of Flag World and shareholder of Foya Branca, the works do not respect the basic environmental rules, nor the law regarding the distance of construction on the seafront (minimum 80 meters), such as the concept of removable construction.

“Praia de São Pedro was clearly a beach that kept its natural and even protected beauty. It is with sadness that I see the beginning of a clear assault on nature so well preserved until today ”, he lamented, in a statement sent to this newsroom.

The businessman stresses that, at a time when “the whole world is struggling with ecological problems and talks about safeguarding species”, this “type of murder of nature” cannot be witnessed without being denounced.

“I think it is our duty to denounce to ensure that nature does not continue to be destroyed and that future generations are not compromised”, he maintained.

Work was inspected and authorized

The Ministry of the Sea, quoted by online Notícias do Norte, reacted to this “legitimate” concern, saying that “the work complies with the construction permit”.

“In the present case, the developer of a project in the ZDTI of São Pedro was granted an area in Praia de São Pedro for the construction of a beach support, which is provided with all the documents and authorizations legally required,” maintains the opinion. from the Concessions Office of the Ministry of the Sea.

It also clarifies that the beach support now under construction at Praia de São Pedro was duly supervised by the competent entity, and that it contains removable concrete structures at its base that only serve to ensure that the final structure does not rest directly on the sand, preserving it. .

“In addition, we emphasize that the Ministry of the Sea shares the concern for the environment, strictly complying with the legislation in force, which requires that all projects built in the State’s maritime public domain areas be previously analyzed and approved by the environmental authority”, he stressed. .
