World Bank Operations Director visits Cape Verde

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Executive Director of World Bank Operations, Axel van Trotsenburg, will be visiting Cape Verde from this Sunday until Monday. On the agenda are the challenges the country faces to achieve equitable growth and the impacts of war.

“I look forward to visiting Cape Verde and meeting with the Government to discuss the challenges the country faces to achieve equitable growth, particularly in the current context of the Covid-19 crisis and taking into account the impacts of the recent war in Ukraine” , said Axel van Trotsenburg.

Axel van Trotsenburg will visit projects financed by the World Bank, to hear, from Cape Verdeans, the impacts of these projects on the lives of the populations, as indicated in a statement from the world’s highest financial institution.

According to the same source, it will also have discussions on some of the structural challenges in health, digital economy and tourism, critical for economic recovery in key sectors, in a context of growing debt and fiscal vulnerabilities.

During his visit, van Trotsenburg will be accompanied by Nathan Belete, World Bank Director for Cape Verde, Gambia, Mauritania and Senegal and by Abebe Adugna, Regional Director for Equitable Growth, Finance and Institutions (EFI) for West and Central Africa. .

Together with members of the Government, the executive should visit Estrada de Ribeira dos Picos (Santa Cruz), the Data Center, a Weblab and the Achada Santo António Health Center – all projects that received funding from the World Bank.
