The Diocese of Mindelo considered, this Tuesday, that the news of the alleged disappearance of pilgrims in Portugal are “exaggerated” and “sow confusion”, given that the groups do not follow the same schedule of accommodation and activities. Of his caravan, which includes participants from the Barlavento region, he clarified, only six pilgrims have not been participating in the activities, so far.
The Days, according to a note issued by the Diocese, are still ongoing, although there have been previous stages and moments, such as the Pre-Day in Leiria and Lamego for young people in Cape Verde.
Therefore, he continues, the fact that some pilgrims did not appear in these places is not a sufficient reason to speak of disappearance.
“The Caravan of Mindelo, made up of pilgrims from the parishes of Sal, Boa Vista, São Vicente, Santo Antão and São Nicolau, seminarians from the Diocese of Mindelo who study in Seville, Recife and Lisbon, the Neo-Catechumenal Movement and the Salesian School add up a total of about 150 people”, he indicates, informing that, of this total, six, in fact, have not taken part in the activities.
“Not all of these groups have the same accommodation program and activities during their stay in Portugal. 115 of those who depend directly on the Organizing Committee of the Diocese for WYD have been staying in Póvoa do Santa Iria since yesterday afternoon”, he clarified.
