Zamalek SC Loses Final to USM Alger

Africa-Press – Cape verde. Union of Algiers clinched the African Confederation Cup title after defeating their hosts Zamalek in a penalty shootout during the second leg of the final, held at Cairo International Stadium.

The match ended in regular time with the white team leading by one goal, resulting in a 1-1 aggregate score over the two matches. Union of Algiers secured victory and the title with a penalty shootout score of 8-7.

Zamalek took an early lead when Palestinian player Adam Kaid earned a penalty.

Adi Al-Dabbagh scored Zamalek’s first goal in the 5th minute, successfully converting the penalty to the right of goalkeeper Osama Ben Bout.

Zamalek made a forced substitution in the 29th minute, bringing in Mohamed Awad for Mehdi Suleiman in goal after the latter sustained an injury.

Ahmed Khaldi threatened Zamalek’s goal with a dangerous shot in the 54th minute, which went just wide of the post.

Khaldi nearly surprised Zamalek in the 69th minute with a dangerous shot from inside the penalty area that went over the crossbar.

Zamalek’s most dangerous chance came in the 85th minute, following a cross from Mohamed Ibrahim and a precise header from Nasser Mansi, which was deflected by goalkeeper Osama Ben Bout for a corner kick.

Zamalek lost the match in the penalty shootout, 8-7, after Mohamed Shahat missed the eighth penalty for the white team, allowing a player from Union of Algiers to score the final decisive penalty.
