Africa-Press – Eritrea. “The Nigerian Nightmare,” Kamaru On the morning of Sunday, June 15, 2025, Usman defeated Joaquin Buckley in the welterweight main event of a Fight Night at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, earning his first UFC victory since 2021.
After five rounds in which Usman’s wrestling took the stage and set the stage for success, he won by unanimous decision (49-46 49-46 48-47).
Usman steadily improved his ability to dodge Buckley’s risky blows and choose when to drive in for takedowns.
It became evident after the battle started that Buckley was unable to match his opponent’s technical skill off the feet.
In the first four rounds, Usman managed to score a takedown. Buckley couldn’t get back up on his feet each time.
Despite the fact that the fight was never in danger of ending, Usman managed to gain a significant advantage in points by working hard.
“It feels good. It’s been a while,” Usman said after picking up his first win since losing the welterweight title to Leon Edwards in August 2022.
“I needed to get that monkey off my back. I know I’m still able to do this at the highest level. You have to pull off the skills and use the experience. I feel good.”
Alonzo Menifield defeated Oumar Sy in a light heavyweight opener; Edmen Shahbazyan and Mansur Abdul-Malik both defeated Andre Petroski and Cody Brundage in the middleweight division; Raoni Barcelos defeated Cody Garbrandt in a bantamweight bout; and Rose Namajunas defeated Miranda Maverick by unanimous decision in a women’s flyweight co-main event.
The UFC will resume next weekend with a Fight Night in Baku Crystal Hall in Azerbaijan on Saturday, 21.
The main event will feature a matchup between former Light Heavyweight Championship contenders Khalil Rountree Jr. and Jamahal Hill.
