Africa-Press – Eritrea. Representatives of UN offices in Eritrea and other countries, led by Ms. Nahla Valji, UN Resident Coordinator in Eritrea, visited development sites in the Southern Region today.
During a meeting with Mr. Habteab Tesfatsion, Governor of the Southern Region, the group held discussions focused on the expansion of social service institutions, the efforts being made by the Government and people to address challenges, as well as potential areas for collaboration with UN offices.
The group also visited several key sites, including the integrated watershed management project in the Adi-Agua administrative area of Emni-Haili sub-zone, Mendefera Referral Hospital, soil and water conservation intervention at Adewhi village, the National Agriculture Research Institute, Gergera Dam, the Solar Farm, and Azieb Dairy Farm. Briefings were provided by experts at each location.
Ms. Nahla stated that the visit would make a significant contribution toward strengthening the existing partnership and identifying collaborative efforts aligned with the priorities of the Government of Eritrea.
The participants, for their part, emphasized that their firsthand observation of Eritrea’s development progress would play an important role in challenging the negative and inaccurate narratives being disseminated about the Eritrea.
The representatives of UN offices, following their assessment meeting held on 11 and 12 June, also engaged in discussions with senior Government officials on enhancing the partnership between Eritrea and the United Nations.
