Africa-Press – Eritrea. Adi-Keih College of Business and Social Science has conferred first degrees and diplomas to 523 graduates at its 18th Commencement today, 47% of whom are female students. The graduation ceremony was attended by Ministers, senior Government and PFDJ officials, as well as parents of the graduates and other invited guests.

The degree program graduates included 73 in History, 62 in Sociology and Archaeology, 59 in Management and Public Administration, 55 in English Language, 47 in Accounting, 44 in Library Science and Information, 41 in Economics and Finance, and 39 in Law.

In the diploma program, 13 graduated in Sociology and Social Work, 7 in Tourism and Hotel Management, and 1 in Banking.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Estifanos Hailemariam, Dean of the College, said that the main objective of the college is to produce innovative and creative students rather than job seekers. Regarding the curriculum, Dr. Estifanos stated that the college is focused on designing nationally relevant, internationally competitive, high-quality, and sustainable educational programs.

Dr. Estifanos further noted that the college has 68 academic staff members, including 30 PhD holders, 30 with MA and BA degree holders, and the remainder, 17% are expatriates from India, Kenya, and Sudan. He also mentioned that as part of efforts to enhance staff development, 15 staff members are currently studying abroad in Hungary, China, India, and Russia.

Ms. Askalu Menkorios, Minister of Tourism, emphasized the importance of recognizing that the free education provided in Eritrea is the result of a long and bitter struggle and sacrifice. She added that the opportunity aims to nurture competent generations equipped with essential knowledge and values.

A representative of the graduates, expressing appreciation for the educational opportunity they received, affirmed their commitment to live up to the expectations of the people and Government who supported their journey.

At the event, 38 outstanding students were awarded medals of recognition.

Adi-Keih College of Business and Social Science has graduated over 12,000 students in postgraduate, first degree, diploma, and certificate programs over the past 15 years.
