Africa-Press – Eritrea. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) reacts to Bertrand Traore remarks following Algeria vs Burkina Faso on December 28.
Frustrated by refereeing decisions, the player criticized a denied early penalty and inconsistent use of VAR.
These statements were not without consequence. The CAF Disciplinary Committee summoned the player for a hearing.
During the hearing, Bertrand Traore apologized and expressed his regret for his comments. Despite this conciliatory gesture, the CAF decided to fine the player US$10,000 for “insulting remarks” made in the mixed zone after the match.
In response, the Burkinabe Football Federation (FBF) issued a statement on Wednesday acknowledging the sanction.
It emphasized that this decision in no way calls into question the commitment of the Étalons captain.
“Bertrand Traore remains an example of professionalism and determination, ready to give his all for his team,” the FBF said.
This episode, although regrettable, does not seem to have dampened the player’s motivation or the unity of the Burkinabe team, which is continuing its campaign in this AFCON with ambition.
The FBF is calling for calm and concentration so that the Étalons can continue to proudly defend the colors of Burkina Faso in this major African football competition.
