Africa-Press – Eritrea. Marc-André ter Stegen’s future at FC Barcelona has taken a sharp turn. Despite the German keeper’s recent insistence that he will remain at the club next season, the Catalan media now reports that Barça’s leadership — alongside new coach Hansi Flick — has other plans.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the club is looking to refresh its goalkeeping department and is preparing to install Espanyol’s Joan Garcia as the new number one. Juventus’ Wojciech Szczęsny is also in negotiations to arrive as his experienced backup.
This leaves Ter Stegen, once untouchable at Camp Nou, out of the club’s main plans.
While Sport claims the German international is ready to fight for his place, Barça appears to have made its decision. Iñaki Peña is also set to depart, making room for the new duo. At 32, Ter Stegen is unlikely to accept a third-choice role, meaning his name could soon feature prominently on the summer transfer market.
