Africa-Press – Eritrea. Blood donation week, in which institutions and line ministries, Air and Naval Forces, regional and sub-zonal administrations, as well as students took part, was conducted in the port city of Massawa from 6 to 14 December.

According to Mr. Tewolde Tesfazgi, chairman of the Voluntary Blood Donors Association in the Northern Red Sea Region, over 700 units of blood were donated from eight centers.

Indicating that voluntary blood donation activities, which were previously confined to Massawa and Ghinda, have now expanded to Afabet and Nakfa, Mr. Tewolde said that the effort is registering encouraging results. He also called on partners to strengthen their participation in the effort.

Mr. Mehari Abraham, head of blood donation services at the National Blood Transfusion Service, said that the initiative was organized by the regional Voluntary Blood Donors Association. He further noted that, as a result of sustained awareness-raising activities, public understanding of blood donation is steadily growing and is making a significant contribution to enriching the blood supply of the National Blood Transfusion Service.

Established in 2015, the Voluntary Blood Donors Association in the Northern Red Sea Region has over five thousand members.
