Champions League Round of 16 second leg to kick off with 2 clashes

Africa-Press – Eritrea. The UEFA Champions League Round of 16 second leg will kick off with exciting matchups Tuesday, as Bayern Munich face Lazio and Real Sociedad take on Paris Saint-Germain.

Played at the Stadio Olimpico, Lazio secured a narrow win over Bayern Munich with a Ciro Immobile penalty after Dayot Upamecano was sent off in the first leg.

Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri said in a press conference that they are aware second-leg would be very difficult and there is no easy path to qualification.

“We will have to suffer and sacrifice. In football, nothing is impossible and that must give us courage. We need to be at it right from the off, which we haven’t of late,” Sarri said.

Meanwhile, the Bavarians lost a last-16 first leg for the first time since 2012.

Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel said that the situation is clear, and to put in a top performance they need to feel the pressure.

“Pressure is necessary to achieve extraordinary performances. We know we have to win and against a well-organized Maurizio Sarri team. We hope the fans and the home atmosphere can push us so that we can achieve our goal of a win with a two-goal difference.”

In another last-16 tie, Real Sociedad will play against Paris Saint-Germain at the Reala Arena as the first leg ended with a 2-0 win in favor of the Parisians at the Parc des Princes. Second-half goals came from Kylian Mbappe and Bradley Barcola.

Both clashes will start at 2000 GMT.

The second-leg clashes will be held on March 5-6 and March 12-13 and the 2023-24 final will take place at London’s Wembley Stadium on June 1.

Known as the Home of Football, Wembley has hosted seven previous European Cup finals — more than any other stadium.
