Africa-Press – Eritrea. Nottingham Forest have sacked manager Ange Postecoglou just 20 minutes after their crushing 3-0 home defeat to Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday — a result that leaves the club hovering dangerously above the relegation zone.
Postecoglou, who made history for the wrong reasons by becoming the first Forest manager to go winless in his first eight matches, appeared isolated at full-time as boos rang around The City Ground. The moment club owner Evangelos Marinakis walked out at 2-0 told the story of a decision already being made.
Chelsea took control through a quickfire double from Pedro Neto — who scored and assisted within three minutes early in the second half. The visitors, despite missing key midfielders Cole Palmer and Enzo Fernandez and playing with 10 men late on after Malo Gusto’s red card, sealed the win comfortably.
Nineteen-year-old defender Josh Acheampong broke the deadlock with a free header from Neto’s cross, before Neto’s driven free-kick made it 2-0, beating Matz Sels through a poorly assembled wall. Forest’s misery deepened when a corner kick situation led to Reece James firing in Chelsea’s third, prompting a mass exit from home supporters.
Forest had earlier wasted big chances, with Morgan Gibbs-White missing two clear opportunities and Igor Jesus denied by the woodwork in the 70th minute — their closest moment to a consolation.
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, serving a touchline ban and watching from the stands, admitted mixed feelings after the match.
“I feel very sorry, it’s always a shame,” Maresca told TNT Sports. “Unfortunately it’s a business where you need to win games. Otherwise, for all of us, it’s the same consequences.”
For Chelsea, the win lifts them to fourth and delivers their first clean sheet since August. For Forest, it marks the end of the Ange Postecoglou era after just eight games — and the beginning of yet another search for stability.
