Crystal Palace Appeals UEFA Demotion to Conference League

Africa-Press – Eritrea. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has received an appeal from Crystal Palace about their relegation from the Europa League to the UEFA Conference League.

The London team violated UEFA’s regulations on multi-club ownership, despite winning the FA Cup the previous season.

John Textor, an American businessman, was found to have control or influence over Palace and French club Lyon as of March 1 by the European Football Organisation.

As a result, Lyon maintained their Europa League spot due to their superior league standing, and they are prohibited from competing in the same European competition by UEFA regulations.

If the sanction is upheld, Forest, who were seventh in the Premier League, will likely take Palace’s position in the second-tier Europa League.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Court of Arbitration for Sport acknowledged receiving Palace’s appeal and said it would provide a ruling by no later than August 11.

The CAS verified that Palace was attempting to replace Lyon or Forest in the Europa League.

Woody Johnson of the New York Jets has agreed to purchase Textor’s share of Palace, but the deal was made too late to appease UEFA.
