Africa-Press – Eritrea. Nigeria international, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, is set for a spell on the sidelines after sustaining a muscle injury during Lazio’s 1-0 defeat to Roma in the Serie A last weekend.
The midfielder was forced off early in the 14th minute and replaced by Read Belahyane. Tests have since confirmed he will be out of action for around a month.
His absence compounds Lazio’s injury woes, with Matias Vecino and Nicolo Rovella also sidelined for several weeks. Maurizio Sarri’s side face Genoa away this weekend as they aim to bounce back from the derby defeat.
For Nigeria, Dele-Bashiru’s injury comes as a major setback ahead of next month’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. The Super Eagles face Lesotho in Bloemfontein on Saturday, October 5, before travelling to Cotonou to battle the Squirrels of Benin Republic four days later.
Dele-Bashiru, who has made four league appearances for Lazio this season, is now a big doubt for those fixtures, leaving head coach Finidi George with a potential midfield headache.
