Diaspora Nationals Commemorate Martyrs’ Day

Africa-Press – Eritrea. Nationals in the US, Great Britain, Saudi Arabia, South Sudan, Angola, Kenya, Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey have commemorated Martyrs’ Day with patriotic zeal.

According to reports, nationals in the US cities of Las Vegas and Raleigh-Durham; in the UK cities of London, Sheffield, Leicester, Newcastle, Liverpool, Nottingham, Coventry, Bristol, Cardiff, Wakefield, Middlesbrough, Southampton, Glasgow, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, and Brighton; in the Saudi cities of Riyadh, Jeddah, and Al-Namas; as well as in the Angolan cities of Benguela, Lubango, Huambo, Cabinda, Lucapa, have commemorated Martyrs’ Day with candlelight vigils and cultural and artistic programs in remembrance of Eritrean martyrs who sacrificed their lives for independence and national sovereignty.

At the events held in all cities, large numbers of nationals participated in programs that included speeches focusing on the deep meaning of the day to the Eritrean people, as well as the responsibility of nationals to support the families of martyrs.

Similarly, Martyrs’ Day was commemorated in Cairo, Egypt; Istanbul, Turkey; Doha, Qatar; and Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, as well as in Juba, South Sudan featuring various programs highlighting the significance of the day.

At the events, nationals extended financial contributions in support of the families of martyrs. Nationals also pledged to assume greater responsibility in supporting the families of martyrs.

Accordingly, nationals in Riyadh and its environs contributed 28,775.50 Saudi Riyals toward augmenting the National Trust Fund, while individuals and associations contributed an additional 140,760 Riyals in support of martyr families.

In a similar event in Cairo, nationals contributed 46,300 Egyptian Pounds and 1,510 US Dollars in support of the families of martyrs.
