Africa-Press – Eritrea. At a seminar conducted in Barentu for women workers, the National Union of Eritrean Women (NUEW) branch in the Gash Barka Region reported that strong efforts are being exerted to improve the livelihoods of women.

Ms. Yihdega Yohannes, head of the union branch, said that organizing women, implementing vocational training programs aimed at enhancing capacity of women, and addressing women’s issues are priority tasks of the union. She noted that the vocational training programs provided so far have registered visible achievements in improving the lives of women.

At the seminar, Eng. Azekia Alfyo provided a detailed briefing on the role and contribution of Eritrean women during the armed struggle for national independence and in safeguarding national sovereignty. He also called on all concerned institutions and the public to strengthen participation in efforts to fully eradicate harmful practices that psychologically and physically affect women.

In related news, the National Union of Eritrean Women branch in the Gash Barka Region conducted a seminar for women in Akordet, focusing on the role of women in the national struggle for independence as well as in preserving the achievements registered so far.

At the event, Ms. Yihdega Yohannes also briefed participants on the achievements the union branch has registered in the implementation of its programs.
