FC Barcelona and Ter Stegen Locked in Escalating Dispute

Africa-Press – Eritrea. The conflict between Marc-André ter Stegen and FC Barcelona has reached a boiling point. The German goalkeeper refuses to sign the club’s medical report regarding his back injury and opposes being removed from the official Liga squad list.

This decision blocks the registration of new goalkeeper Joan Garcia, who arrived from Espanyol to become the starter. Ter Stegen, sidelined for most of last season, has already clashed with the club over the signing of veteran Wojciech Szczęsny and now feels pushed aside once again.

Barça had planned to use Ter Stegen’s long-term injury status to temporarily remove him from the list and register Garcia, but that requires the player’s signature on the medical report—something he’s unwilling to provide. He denies the club’s accusation of exaggerating his injury and insists he will be fit to play by late September. By refusing to sign, Ter Stegen avoids being benched until January.

The club may consider disciplinary action, but the German keeper, backed by teammates, appears determined to win this standoff.
