Africa-Press – Eritrea. FIFA has issued a firm reminder to all member federations, reinforcing the total ban on advertisements on referees’ kits, inside VAR rooms, and around pitchside monitors.
The global football body stressed that no promotional material linked to tobacco, alcohol, drugs, betting, or any political, religious, or discriminatory content will be tolerated. In cases of sponsorship conflicts, referees must remove all logos—even those on VAR screen backdrops—before kick-off, according to Spain’s Marca.
As part of this directive, FIFA clarified that referee shirts must only display official badges and the technical sponsor’s logo, with no other branding allowed.
Shorts, socks, and shoes are also to remain free of advertising. These long-standing rules aim to uphold the refereeing body’s visual neutrality and avoid any brand association in official match contexts across all federations.
