FIFA Faces a New Historic Problem

Africa-Press – Eritrea. FIFA is facing an unprecedented legal challenge after the Players’ Justice Foundation (JfP) launched a class action lawsuit on behalf of thousands of professional footballers. The move follows a landmark ruling from the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) in the Lassana Diarra case, which found that FIFA had breached EU competition law and restricted free movement by preventing Diarra from ending his contract with Lokomotiv Moscow to join Charleroi.

The court declared FIFA’s transfer regulations unlawful and damaging to players’ rights. Empowered by the ruling, the JfP is now seeking justice for all players who, since 2002, have been constrained by FIFA’s rules within the EU and UK. The class action, to be filed in the Netherlands, could impact up to 100,000 players.

It accuses FIFA and several national federations of enforcing regulations that systematically violated European principles, causing career and financial harm.

This case may trigger one of the most significant legal reckonings in global football governance.
