Africa-Press – Eritrea. The world of soccer is mourning the passing of Jean-Louis Gasset, an iconic figure on the French sidelines, at the age of 72.
Renowned for his tactical expertise and humanity, he made his mark on the history of the French Championship, both as Laurent Blanc’s loyal assistant and as a respected head coach.
From Montpellier to AS Saint-Étienne, via notable spells at Girondins de Bordeaux and, more recently, Olympique de Marseille.
His career will also remain linked to the Ivory Coast, where he coached the Elephants during the last Africa Cup of Nations.
Although his departure came prematurely after a difficult group stage and a crushing defeat to Equatorial Guinea, he laid the foundations for the Ivorian team that was crowned champion a few weeks later.
