Africa-Press – Eritrea. Ilkay Gündogan is closing in on a surprise move to Galatasaray after Manchester City granted him permission to leave. The Turkish transfer window remains open until September 12, giving the champions of Turkey a chance to strengthen further, and they have made the 34-year-old midfielder their top priority.
According to Fabrizio Romano, City has authorized Gündogan to fly to Istanbul to finalize personal terms and undergo his medical. The deal is expected to be wrapped up within the next 24 hours.
Gündogan, who won every major trophy with Manchester City before his Barcelona stint, is now set to sign a contract until 2027 with Galatasaray.
The Turkish champions, already qualified for the Champions League, view the veteran midfielder as a key addition to boost their European ambitions.
