Africa-Press – Eritrea. Asmara, 31 July 2021- The legendary footballer Italo Vassalo passed away on 30 July at the age of 80 due to illness.
Italo Vassalo who was one of Eritrea’s football stars in the 60s and 70s has collected many trophies with the then Hamasien Football Club and Eritrean National Team. He was also one of the eight Eritrean footballers in the Ethiopian National team that was African Champion in 1962.
After Independence, Italo served as technical advisor to the Eritrean Football Federation.
Italo Vassalo is survived by his wife and 4 children.
The funeral service of Italo Vassalo was held today, 31 July in Rome.
