Africa-Press – Eritrea. A new deal between Serie A and the Italian Footballers’ Association will cut the earnings of top-tier Italian players by 25% if their teams are demoted to Serie B.
Tuesday marked the announcement of the five-year deal.
All contracts signed after September 2, 2025, the conclusion of the transfer window, will be subject to the pay cut, which is intended to lessen the financial burden on clubs that leave Serie A.
Salary reductions under the new system are automatic unless a player’s contract specifies otherwise.
Current agreements will continue to be governed by their terms.
Affected salaries will revert to their initial level if a team is promoted back to Serie A.
Additionally, the collective bargaining agreement establishes an age-based minimum compensation structure for players that cannot be reduced, even in the event of relegation.
