Africa-Press – Eritrea. Spanish La Liga leaders Barcelona were handed a 1-0 loss at Real Sociedad in a Sunday football match.
Real Sociedad winger Sheraldo Becker from Suriname scored the winning goal in the penalty box at Reale Arena in San Sebastian, Spain after Barcelona’s central defender Pau Cubarsi slipped.
Before Becker’s goal, Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski scored, but it was denied by the video assistant referee (VAR), which deemed the Polish forward offside.
Real Sociedad secured the narrow win to end Barcelona’s seven-match winning streak across all competitions.
Barcelona have 33 points in 13 Spanish league matches. The point gap between Barcelona and second-place Real Madrid, which have a game in hand, has been reduced to six points before the international break.
Real Sociedad have 18 points to move to eighth spot in the La Liga standings.
Following the international break, the Spanish league will return to action on Friday, Nov. 22.
