Africa-Press – Eritrea. Successful cataract surgery on 620 patients, including 7 children, has been performed at Afabet Hospital from 18 to 23 February.
Dr. Eyob Beyene, coordinator of the program, said that the program was successfully carried out owing to the commendable coordination of the sub-zonal and area administrations.
Nurse Alamin Ibrahim, head of health facilities in the Afabet sub-zone, stated that prior to the surgery, eye diagnoses were conducted on 1,524 patients from various administrative areas in the sub-zone and that surgery was performed on those identified as requiring treatment. The patients were also provided with medicines.
Ophthalmologist Dr. Mohammed Yasin, a member of the medical team that performed the surgery, also provided a briefing to the patients focusing on post-surgery eye care, proper application of medication, and other related issues.
The beneficiary patients expressed gratitude to the Eritrean surgical team for restoring their vision by bringing the service to their areas of residence.
Similar eye surgery was performed on over 160 patients at Nakfa Hospital on 16 and 17 February.
