The Advantages of Failure

Africa-Press – Eritrea. In modern culture, success is a drug, and people get intoxicated by it. We like the appearance, feeling, or trappings of success.

However, every seasoned entrepreneur or leader understands that the road to success is fraught with failure.

Generally, people who have attained success will testify to the failures that they endured. Failure and success are two sides of a coin.

Failure is interesting. At first, it feels uncomfortable. Then, the more you experience it, the more your perspective changes about it – if you permit the process.

Failure look and feels horrible for a time, but usually, beneath the pain is leverage – it has several advantages, and here are three.
Quick Learning: Exposure to failure affects a proactive learner differently. Why? It is because every time you fail and evaluate your failure, you experience growth. When this occurs long enough, you realize that your learning skills improve over time. One sign of this is your ability to quickly assess situations and make good decisions frequently.

In essence, failure increases your learning speed. It is mind boot camp. Consequently, when challenges arise, your mind is nimble and tends to identify the appropriate response. Furthermore, you become challenge–friendly; when trouble or difficulties arise, you get excited because your mind enjoys solving problems. Trouble is familiar territory. You know it’s another opportunity to learn, grow, and sharpen your skills. So, you get excited.

Emotional Stamina: Good exposure to failure builds your emotional stamina. It means that you do not fall apart emotionally every time failure occurs. You stay calm, and your mind goes to work because you understand that “this too shall pass.” It is one reason seasoned entrepreneurs and leaders take a hit, but keep moving forward. They know that if they break down every time trouble appears, little or nothing would be achieved. Understanding failure makes you poised to take advantage of it rather than crumble under its weight.

Effective Strategy: Let’s face it: as a proactive learner, when exposed to failure, over time you get better at what you do. It sharpens your strategy skills and instincts. You develop a unique approach to work and master the art of getting great results.

People who become the best in their field go through the failure tunnel. While in the tunnel, they learn what works and what doesn’t. They sharpen their strategy skills and become experts formed in the furnace of failure. These strategists do not fear failure because while people see loss, they see leverage.
